Essential Strategies for Achieving Goals ( Mastering Self-Discipline )
Importance of Self-Discipline
It seems like everything is happening in fast forward. We work fast, talk fast, eat fast, solve problems fast, and strive to achieve our goals fast. We become stressed and anxious if things don’t happen quickly. The journey no longer matters. What matters is speed. Quickly ticking off a superficial checklist, a consequence of superficial thinking.
I’m sure you’ve set a goal before and found that neither lack of knowledge nor available time has stopped you. The hardest part was convincing yourself to get started!
I believe self-discipline is often the missing piece between setting a goal and achieving it. Knowledge and time are important factors. The ability to self-motivate for consistent action is crucial.
Discipline versus motivation
There’s a difference between discipline and motivation, even though both ultimately get you moving.
Motivation is doing things when you want to.
Discipline is doing things when you don’t feel like it and doing them anyway.
It’s one thing to go to the gym because you enjoy it, and another to go because you’ve committed to yourself.
