“I’m Not Good Enough”

This is the distorted alter-ego that takes over your life, preventing you from loving yourself.

What Does This Alter-Ego Do?

It appears at the worst possible times, manifesting through anger, denial, envy, arguments, a savior complex, intense emotional reactions to even minor criticisms, a constant fight for justice, guilt, inability to forgive yourself and others, sadness, apathy, and procrastination.

How Does It Manifest Through Anger?

Imagine your partner suggests you take out the trash, and you explode with rage, thinking, “After everything I’ve done, now you’re on my case about this?” You start a heated argument, bringing up every past grievance. Your face flushes, and your heart races, all in an attempt to rid yourself of the idea that “I’m not good enough,” hoping to escape this distorted alter-ego.

Distorted Alter-Ego and Procrastination

You delay making decisions and, when you do, you delay acting on them. Your inner critic says, “Maybe I’m not ready yet, maybe I need to read more, get more information, learn more, or maybe I won’t manage well.” In this case, the distorted alter-ego “I’m not good enough” merges with…
