Productivity Unleashed: The Path to Accomplishing More with Less Distraction
We are built to focus on one thing at a time. Sometimes, we may have the impression that it’s not the case. In reality, attention can change very quickly, giving the illusion that we can focus on two things simultaneously. It’s an illusion!
Our neurons can transmit only one signal, and it’s natural for us to focus on one thing.
It’s okay for our attention to be distracted. It’s a precious evolutionary adaptation that has helped us survive and avoid becoming breakfast for tigers, lions, cheetahs, or wolves. (Yes, they are magnificent animals, but I’m rather fond of myself, and I believe we can coexist!)
Now, the jungle has transformed. The present jungle is urban, and specific adaptations are necessary, such as the ability to concentrate.
“Concentration is the secret of strength in politics, in war, in trade, in short, in all the management of human affairs.” — Ralph Waldo Emerson
Solutions can be identified by using our natural capacity for concentration. The first step is to eliminate distractions. So, no music, no television, and no multiple open tabs simultaneously. In short, no multitasking. For me, at least, that’s how it works.
