Thinking that life is supposed to be easy

There are folks who claim life should be a certain way. Just an illusion, with no connection to reality.

The most common cliché encountered by some folks who fancy themselves as realists is: “Life’s tough, man! Grab what you can and don’t look back!”

That’s some major baloney, harder to find. It’s the pretext used for improper behavior. Sometimes it leads to profoundly improper behavior. Sanctioned by society, by-laws, by destiny. Because it’s about the psychological role of the victim.

The problem is that those in the psychological role of the victim don’t stop there. They transition from victim to aggressor and even savior. They might mean well, but with that mindset, they’ll always fail in the victim role.

Life is tough for everyone: This is a universal truth. Difficulties are a natural part of life for every individual.

It’s important to recognize that we’re not alone in our struggles and that many people go through similar experiences.

“It’s not what happens to us, but how we react to what happens to us that matters.” — Epictetus

Perhaps Epictetus is the most qualified to make this statement. He lived in ancient Rome, born a slave. His master broke his leg, just because he could. He limped through life.
