Those who leave a relationship because of an abusive partner often end up with another abusive partner. Those who leave a job because of a toxic environment often find themselves in another similar environment. Our subconscious seeks familiarity, not necessarily what’s best for us. It detects subtle signs that confirm its expectations. It is about your mental game.
The choices we make in business come more from the subconscious. Even though they sometimes seem rational, this rationality is often an illusion.
I was a quality manager at a mid-sized international company.
In that company, I had to investigate the causes of losses and mistakes. Whenever I asked for justifications for a mistake, I always got one. I was asked to find someone to blame and punish, but most of the time, the real cause was the overall system of the company. The poor decisions of senior management reflected the collective mindset, especially that of the general manager, who chose people he resonated with — those familiar to him.
