When Asking the Right Question Makes All the Difference in Life
What’s holding me back?
It’s a question I’ve asked myself many times over the years.
I was frustrated, angry, guilty, disappointed in myself and everything in between.
It often seemed to me that if I could identify my weaknesses and really understand what was wrong with me, then I could begin to fix it.
Ask yourself what’s wrong with you, and if you’re like most people, your brain won’t run out of answers.
However, this strategy does not create a basis for positive and confident action; in fact, it does the opposite.
It only creates a spiral of negative reinforcement and repetition of failed strategies.
But when I started investigating what didn’t work, or what didn’t work as I had hoped, I started to find something unexpected. I realized I asked the wrong question!
It wasn’t about what was holding me back; it was about what kept me going!
Rather than my weaknesses getting me there, it was more about the misapplication of my strengths.
This really made sense to me.
